Sofia Deaflympics 2013: Programme One

The first of two half-hour programmes from the Deaflympics in Sofia!

The first of our two programmes covering the 2013 Deaflympics in Sofia. This is the 22nd instalment of the Deaflympics, and the second time it has been held in Bulgaria. First up, there's an interview with Fiona Brookes, the Chef de Mission for UK Deaf Sport, who tells us how she is making sure everything is running smoothly for the 50-strong GB tream. We visit the opening ceremony, and watch as the flame reaches its destination! There's a look back at the origins of the games, with an interview with Bernard Le'Maine, who is keeping the work of his grandfather, Antoine Dresse (who co-established the games) alive. There is incredible footage from past Deaflympics, including the London games in 1935. Finally, we see Rob Lowe compete in the 10m Air Rifle, watch how the GB Women's football team get on against Russia, and see marathon runnerĀ Melanie Jewett winning Britain's first medal of the games! Don't miss it!
