Getting Personal with Richard D France

Deepa Shastri talks to Richard D France about his life, mental health and suicide attempts.

Interview programme. Presenter Deepa Shastri meets Richard D France, a published poet, writer, performer and now a mental health campaigner. A mental health survivor, Richard has made several suicide attempts and had long stays in secure mental health institutions. After finally receiving effective treatment at a specialist hospital for Deaf people with mental health issues, he is now keen to share his story.  In the programme Deepa goes on a journey through Richard's life that is at times humorous, tragic and hard hitting, as he reveals how he narrowly escaped death and is now using his life experience to help others. Produced and directed by Cathy Heffernan; a Drummer TV production for BSLBT.

  • Thank you for showing Richard France story - it was most imspriing and helpful. What next you might need to do is help us understand why the mainstream service are failing us. Is this doable please?  I feel the system is failing us and often we see the media and the royal family talks of mental helath but people who are d/Deaf pr disabled are not mentioned. Thank you
