A brand-new training scheme that aims to give opportunities to Deaf film makers has been launched, in a partnership between ITV SignPost and BSLBT.
The first two Deaf trainees, Raza Hussain and Ruaridh Lever-Hogg, were selected after a tough assessment day. They will spend the next year gaining a variety of skills, working across a range of programmes.
BSLBT’s Head of Commissioning, Maggie Swinfen, said: "I attended the assessment day for the scheme and was inspired by the quality of the candidates. I congratulate Raza and Ruaridh and look forward to following their progress on this exciting new initiative."
Director of SignPost, Kenny Toal, added: "This is a fantastic example of collaboration between ITV and BSLBT and provides an amazing opportunity for the trainees. They will be working across all sorts of programmes and doing a range of tasks. We hope this trainee scheme will provide opportunities to Deaf filmmakers and encourage more to pursue their careers within the television industry."
