New Chair of Trustees for BSLBT

Posted on 21st June 2023

We at BSLBT are delighted to announce that Jeff McWhinney will be our next Chair of Trustees.

A well-known figure in the Deaf community, Jeff was the first Deaf CEO of the BDA in the 1990s.  He then founded SignVideo, who pioneered video relay services in the UK.

Jeff said: "I am honoured to be the new Chair of the Board, and I am excited to work with Camilla and her team.  I am aware that the speed of emergent technologies is changing the broadcasting industry, but I am confident that with my track record of harnessing these to empower deaf people, and with the expertise and talent within BSLBT, we can confidently meet these challenges head-on.  We have a talented team, and we are committed to providing the best possible broadcasting experience for our BSL viewers."

Jeff will be working alongside Chris Higgs, our current Interim Chair, until later this year, when Chris will step down to be a Trustee and Jeff will become Chair.

Chris said: “I am delighted that Jeff has agreed to chair the BSLBT Board.  He brings a wealth of charity and business board experience as well as a strong connection with the BSL and deaf community who are BSLBT’s key target audience.  Jeff joins at a transformative time for BSLBT as Camilla Arnold takes over as Chief Executive from Ruth Griffiths who is retiring. I look forward to continuing as a Trustee of BSLBT and supporting Jeff in his transition into the role which he will take on later in the year.”
