Award for Hope at Encounters Film Festival!

Posted on 30th September 2019

Our new drama, Hope, which went out last week, has won an award already!  It won the Deaf Shorts Award at Encounters Film Festival in Bristol on Friday night.  We at BSLBT are thrilled and send many congratulations to the Hope team!

Hope was made by VS1 Productions and Drummer TV, written by Lynn Stewart-Taylor in memory of her niece Hannah.

David Ellington, the director, said: “I thought the other D/deaf shorts made in the USA were really high quality and enjoyable to watch, so I was slightly speechless that we won!  I was honoured to accept the Best Deaf Shorts Award, not only for me but also for all of the amazing cast and crew, whose incredible and tireless work made this happen. Thanks to the Encounters judges and BSLBT for commissioning this.  It is important to remember that this award is to pay an emotional tribute to Hannah Johnson.”

If you haven’t seen Hope yet, you can watch it here on our website.  If you’d take a peek behind the scenes to find out more about the making of Hope, click here to watch a short film by Sebastian Cunliffe!
