Under the Lamp 1: Programme 8

Carolyn Nabarro interviews Lillian Lawson, Craig Crowley and John Smith

Chat show featuring notable people from the Deaf community. In this episode, Carolyn Nabarro interviews prominent Deaf people from Newcastle. First up is Lillian Lawson, a trailblazer for the Deaf community who was the first Deaf person from Scotland to be awarded the OBE. She talks about her research into BSL, which helped people understand that it is a unique language. Next, Craig Crowley talks about the varied organisations he’s been involved in - from Friends of the Young Deaf, to UK Deaf Sport and Action Deafness. He also talks about leadership, and whether it can be learned or whether it is innate. Finally, Deaf comedian John Smith comes into the studio to cause mayhem and laughter. Don’t miss it!
