Day 1 - 26th July 2013

The 2013 Deaflympics get started

Highlights from the first day of the Deaflympics. Rob Lowe competes in 10m Rifle and Craig Crowley opens the Games.

Welcome to the highlights of Day 1 at the Deaflympics!

It's been a great start for Team GB In fact, they started last Sunday with the Marathon which was held in Fussen, Germany.

Team GB got their name on the medals list as Melanie Jewett won Bronze in the women's marathon. She also set a personal best.

Hopes that Craig Crowley from GB would secure a second term as President of the ICSD were dashed as he lost out to Dr Valery Rukhledev from Russia. A new era for the ICSD beckons.

Today's Deaflympics News

Rob Lowe is Team GB's first ever competitor in the shooting discipline - where he is up for two events. Today he competed in the 10m air rifle event but had problems with his rifle so couldn't line up his shots correctly and was placed last.

Opening Ceremony

Sofia put on a wonderful display in the Arena Armeec. The fans cheered as the athletes paraded past. The biggest team represented here is Russia with 321 athletes!
