Found in Love

Three Deaf people explain how falling in love helped them discover Deaf culture, Deaf identity and BSL.

Documentary. Three Deaf people, Lesley Reeves Costi, Dean Kamitsis and Diane Borthwick-Hare, tell us how they got more than they bargained for upon falling in love. Meeting their Deaf partners led to them learning sign language and finding their Deaf identities, changing their lives for the better. • Three lovely stories - I'm hearing but learning BSL Level 3 all the videos are good practice and I would love to become a great signer like these wonderful people in your videos.  Thank you.

  • i liked the video, i myself was born with deafness, but my parents would not accept my deafness, i was not allowed by them to mix with the deaf community, when i left school, i left with no exams and worked in a normal hearing workplace which had no deaf awareness, i myself have been bullied throughout my life because of my deafbess, but now i am a happier person as i have found a new partner who I'm very happy to say, i will be marrying this summer who can do BSL, but sadly to say, we have no deaf centres in my local town, as I'm also disabled in other areas, so if you got any help and support of details of deaf centres in my local town, maybe we could chat via email, my life has been a hard struggle, but I'm getting better the best i can.

  • Thank you for this programme. I am hearing and have a lovely deaf brother. We are both in our 60s now and maybe at last I am learning to understand more about being deaf and the deaf community. I loved seeing the couples talk about their relationships and their happiness.
