Web editor Cathy Heffernan will be leaving at the end of this month to take up a job with Blakeway TV productions as part of Channel 4's investigative journalism scheme. She will be working as an development assistant producer on Dispatches, a current affairs programme on Channel 4.
Cathy says: "The job application process was extremely competitive and no doubt having made two documentaries – Deaf Sisterhood and Crossing the Divide as part of the Zoom scheme – for BSLBT played a big part in me making the final cut. It's difficult to leave BSLBT after such a short time here, especially as I was just getting to grips with the job and planning future content for the website. But I've always wanted to work in current affairs TV and documentary-making so couldn't pass up the opportunity to take up a job in this area.
"Working at BSLBT has been a great experience: I went from being a programme-maker on the outside to being part of the team and it's been educational and fun. We've been brainstorming ways to bring in new content on the website and from the sound of it, you are in for a treat during the Deaflympics. I wish the next web editor and the BSLBT team all the best with taking the BSL Zone into the future!"
