Three BSL Zone films, Double Discrimination, Found in the UK and Close Up 3: Ilyaas Cader, will be shown at Deaf Migration to London: Share Experiences, which is a free event for deaf people from abroad (migrants) who have moved to the UK, and Black and Asian Minority Ethnic Deaf people.
After the films have been shown, there will be a question and answer session, with time for everyone to share their experiences and join in the discussion.
Dr Steve Emery, who is working on the Mobile Deaf research project, said: “I am currently gathering data and undertaking fieldwork in London to document the experiences of Deaf migrants in London. We want to encourage discussion around the issue of settling in London, the experiences people have in settling, and for this reason, the event is aimed at a Deaf migrant audience.”
Rinkoo Barpaga, who made Double Discrimination, will be a special guest at the event. It will be held at Stratford East Picturehouse in London at 6pm on 30th October; you can find out more and book a place here.
