The very first Mini Deaffest will be held in Cornwall on Saturday 20th October!

Aiming to attract around 100 people, it will be held in St Austell, with stalls, workshops and five film screenings during the day – and an appearance from Maisie Sly, Rachel Shenton and Chris Overton from The Silent Child. There’ll be an evening event, too!

Organiser Marilyn Willrich said, “I am delighted to make this happen. We have self-funded this festival, and if it is successful, we would like it to evolve into a biennial event.”

One of the festival’s volunteers, Jackie Woodburn, said: “I am Cornish born and bred; while growing up, I had no role models to look up to. The Cornwall Mini Deaffest gives the Deaf and hard of hearing community an opportunity to have role models in the media, like actors, directors and producers, which is amazing for them. I look forward to it.”
