We're pleased to announce that there were five awards for BSL Zone programmes at last weekend's Deaffest 2015 Gala Awards!

Deaffest is the UK's leading Deaf arts and film festival, and this was the tenth time the festival has been held.

At the awards ceremony, our magical Christmas drama Tree Fairy won three awards for Best Film, Best Director (Louis Neethling) and Best Actress (Olivia Jordan-Caws).

Our sitcom Small World was also honoured, with actor and co-creator Brian Duffy winning the Best Actor Award.

Scottish Islanders, our upcoming documentary about Deaf people living on remote Scottish islands which was directed by Camilla Arnold, won the Best Documentary award (it will be shown on TV and online from Thursday 2nd July 2015).

The director of our web-only drama 4, Bim Ajadi, was honoured with a special award for his contribution to Deaf media and filmmaking over the last 18 years.

The BSL Zone is a sponsor of the festival, and as well as having films screened there, hosted a panel discussion with Zoom filmmakers, and had a stall in the Deaffest marketplace.

The festival also hosted talks, workshops, a marketplace full of stalls, and late night parties with entertainment from a variety of Deaf performers.
