Julian Peedle-Calloo interviews Hal Draper, Katharine Thomas and Sandra Smith

Chat show featuring notable people from the Deaf community. In this episode, presenter Julian Peedle-Calloo meets prominent Deaf people from Taunton. First, he meets Deaf actor and comedian Hal Draper, who talks about his life and career, as well as how he prepared for his role in the moving drama Departure Lounge. Next, Julian meets super pen-pal Katherine Thomas, who talks about growing up in New Zealand and her voluntary work for Cornwall Deaf Club. Finally, we meet Sandra Smith, the seventh generation of her family to be born Deaf, who tells us about what it’s like to have a huge Deaf family!

Sadly, Hal Draper, who features in this episode, passed away in January 2013.

  • Hal Draper is a great example to Deaf people and we're going to really missed him forever. But his films are still alive forever. He had a strong personality and when I met him he was very funny and made me laugh and I think he is a good role model for young Deaf. We owe him a lot.
