Eight BSLBT films are getting a showing across the Atlantic in Canada this week at the Toronto International Deaf Film and Arts Festival (TIDFAF), opening this Thursday.

Crossing the Divide has a slot on the opening night, taking its place before American feature documentary Deaf Jam. Its director Cathy Heffernan is going over as a festival guest.

Departure lounge, Little World, Still Here and September 11 are showing the following day while Saturday’s schedule includes You, Me, Five Needles and Confession.

All these productions except for Departure Lounge and Still Here – which were directed by Louis Neethling – are Zoom and Zoom Focus films, the BSLBT/Neath Films scheme which gave up-and-coming filmmakers the opportunity to direct their own films.

The first TIDFAF was in 2006 and it has been running biannually since 2009, this year’s festival being its fourth.

We will have a report from the festival next week!
