As part of the BSL Zone's Wicked series, new Deaf filmmakers were given the chance to make a short film with support from Remark, who made the series.
Now, the BSL Zone is showing all of the Wicked Seeds films as stand-alone films for the first time!
The latest Wicked Seeds to be shown is Out of Control by Stephen Collins and Shana Grummitt. You can watch their film on the right-hand side of this page.
We also interviewed Stephen about his memories of making the film. Here is what he said!
Did you enjoy making it?
It was great fun making Out of Control with Shana Grummitt (it was our second collaboration after a short film we made called The Tape).
I think that Shana came up with the idea from a dream she had one night and I loved how bizarre it was, with a twist.
To be given the free reign to create a film was challenging but joyful.
What was the filming like?
We only had a short time to make the film and we were behind schedule. We managed to get there in the end!
It was a joy to see the actors do bit of action, comedy and see the idea come alive.
Did you like the final film?
I loved the idea and what we did with the time restriction.
Of course with more time and with more experience I would have done some things differently like filming using different angles, more action and adding comedy moments.
What did people think?
They enjoyed the twist at the end. It started off as an action story then it changed completely - so they wouldn't have expected that from a short film.
It's not easy to do a comedy with a twist but keeping it simple helped it to work really well.
